  • Notes
    • In 1881 Ernest is living at 10 Cotton Buildings, Exeter St Mary Major, Devon with his parents,
Fredk Tucker - Head - Married - age 28 - Hotel Servant - born in Bridgewater, Somerset

      ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In 1891 Ernest is living at No 1 Belmount Villas, St Sidwell, Exeter, Devon with his mother and Siblings. They are lodging at the house of Charles Davenport and all the children are listed as Tuckers but by the next census some of the children have become Davenports.
Charles Davenport, Frances Tucker, Edgar Tucker (son), Stella Tucker (daughter), Mabel Tucker (daughter), Harold Tucker (son) and Claud Tucker (son)

Claud is only 7 months old so did Frederick disappear after his conception or are some of these children Charles's?

      ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In 1901 Ernest is living at 30 Albion Road, Exeter, Devon and is working as clerk. He is living with his mother, stepfather and sibling's.
Charles Davenport (stepfather), Fanny Davenport (mother), Mabel Davenport (daughter), Charles Davenport (son), Winifred Davenport (daughter), Francis Davenport (son), Ernest Tucker (stepson), Stella Tucker (stepdaughter)

Going by this Mabel, Charles, Winifred, Harold, Claud and Francis must be Charles's children which means Frederick disappeared between 1885 and 1889 (after Stella's conception and before Maud's conception)

      Ernest Tucker 1920 - 1959 "The Phoenix"

It is Situated opposite the stage door of the Palace Theatre (now the Academy) in Phoenix Street, a street that was laid out along from the old Gas Works in the first half of the nineteenth century. In the heyday of the Theatre it was quite common to see the stars of a show popping in and propping up the bar in full make-up during an interval or bewteen shows. Three people who would have seen most of them were Charles Williams here from 1898 - 1919, Ernest Tucker licensee from 1920 through to 1959 and Iris Mosey who ran the Phoenix through to the Theatre's first closure in 1965. Since that time there have been more than 20 different licensees in this public house. Today, looking forward to a fresh lease of life, the Phoenix is establishing a reputation for promoting young musicians and local groups.
